Shit Jobs

After 2 years, the heads are done.  I must say that after rebuilding my friend Keith's head on his previous boat, a Baba 30, and reworking Discovery's heads and holding tank, I can dismantle her heads and hoses with a minimum of sewage leaking onto our floors, and me.  It's still a shitty(literally), smelly job though.  Replaced the siphon loop on the forward head with a valved one, and moved the old one to the rear head since that one did not have a siphon break on it's supply side.  Forward head is electric, so solenoid is wired to the push button switch for flushing, and closes when the button is pushed, providing good suction to supply flushing water to the bowl. vented loop solenoid Also replaced this.  our old clean out/inspection hatch on the holding tank.  Most of the bolts were frozen and had to be cut out.  Fun.  Once open, I did get to clean our holding tank all the way down to the nasty bottom.  More Fun.  Actually it wasn't too bad, I had the h

Started this project last year shortly before we returned to the states.  I started sanding a scuff coat for some touch up varnishing of the brightwork, and knew these corners were bad.  I was hoping I could fill them with thickened epoxy, but this one was really bad. So off it came, and of course the glass cracked in the process.  We got replacement scratch resistant lexan and some new teak in Socal and once again used my buddy's garage in Huntington Beach to mill the teak parts for a new frame.  That's about as far as I got before we left. as it sits for now Which leads to the next project.  Thinking that I would magically complete the new frame and finish this project "right away", I didn't have all the sealant in as per the above photo, and of course it leaked.  And dribbled.  And pooled in the headliner.   Right above the VHF.  And onto & into it.  It  died.  Not too big a deal since we weren't planning any use for Discovery befor

A year in Mexico and you didn't write.

Yea, a year here.  Well, Discovery anyway.  A year for us minus the 7 months of work back in Florida.  Why no blog entries?  the time in Florida was pretty much work and normal dirt dwelling life, and this blog is supposed to be about the boat.  So what about the other 5 months?  Well, we have really been enjoying Ensenada, and just found better things to do.  Like what?  like this stuff: #1. Food: Sam's loaded up al pastor taco Our Taqueria al pastor spit condiments huevos rancheros from our galley Sunday Buffet at the hotel with paella another al pastor almejas gratinadas - clams au gratin, probably my favorite food here Plus many, many, many fish tacos. Sorry I could not find any photos of one, as we eat them as fast as they make them and can't seem to pause for a pic.  If you have had one here you know what I mean. #2. Fun: some of our trips to La Bufadora, the 2nd largest blow hole
