Memory foam dreams

Officially living aboard now. One of the first projects was to reshape two memory foam mattresses to our aft cabin bunk, a pilot berth and the settee berth. Our main motivation is the existing berth in the master cabin is horribly uncomfortable for two of us to sleep on. Our other motivation is to empty and get rid of the U Haul trailer.


did I mention driving cross country with a trailer blows?

2 memory foam mattresses we schlepped across 8 states – just under $4,000
Plus:
1 electric turkey knife we bought during one of our stops during the drive - $19
Equals:
4 memory foam berths aboard.


So, here goes, watched a couple how to vids on You Tube, fire up the turkey slicer, and tear into 4 grand worth of bedding.

Ahhhhhh. So nice. Having a bad back I have been sleeping on memory foam for the last dozen years, and I have to admit, as our boat searched started, this idea was always in the plans. What the hell else would we have done with them?

    We got a memory foam mattress for Christmas to put in our berth and it was the best improvement to the boat BY FAR! (Well IMO at least)

Day 12: 2/26/2016 Turtle Bay to Asuncíon We departed Turtle bay this morning around 7:30 am and are buddy boating with Sea Witch and Pura Vida to Asuncíon. It's approximately 50 NM to our next anchorage. Winds are light out of the NE with following seas. We motor sailed throughout the day averaging 6 knots, SAS-(Scooby Approved Sailing). The sun is shining and It's warm enough to wear shorts. Yay!!! Myron started the genset to make water to fill our tanks around 9:45 am. I'm looking forward to a hot shower later. Engine goes in

Finally, finally, finally!  We got the engine in. My buddy Keith was once again instrumental in loaning me his truck and some floor space in his company's huge warehouse were I could store the engine for a couple of weeks as I finished up the engine room.  I took the opportunity to level the Perkins on the nice smooth warehouse floor and take a bunch of measurements to make a jig that I used to locate the angle brackets for the engine mounts. yes, there was a final touch up coat of bilge paint to placate my OCD The aluminum angle is 1/2" thick, through bolted to the engine bearers.  Bolt holes were potted by drilling them oversize, filled with thickened epoxy, then the correct bolt hole size drilled, leaving a "sleeve" of epoxy contacting the bare wood(n o pictures of the potting procedure as they were on my iphone, which went swimming in the bilge and drowned).   If moisture is going to get to the solid wood stringers after all this, hopefully it
